After many technical difficulties*, we've finally published our first episode! In it, Will and I introduce ourselves, describe our motivation for creating this podcast, and explain how we got to these points in our lives.
I grew up in a tiny coal-mining town where it's more common to get a job working for a coal mine after high school graduation than it is to go to college. But both of my parents had PhDs in English, so it was just assumed that I would at least go to a 4-year college. And because my mom was so disappointed with the lack of career opportunities in her field, she encouraged me to become a scientist. Years later, I'm a Harvard graduate and a PhD candidate in Astronomy at Columbia University.
Will grew up in the not-so-tiny, not-so-industrial city of Boston. For him, the biggest question definitely wasn't whether or not he would go to college or even where he would go (he also went to Harvard), but what he would study once he got there. Now he's a product manager at a kind of cultish tech startup in New York City.
If you want to know how we got to where we are, you have to head on over to the Episodes tab and listen to Ep 1.
You can also search for us on iTunes (as soon as they officially accept our submission).
*Seriously, we had to record the first episode three times and even then, there was a strange, unidentifiable crackling sound (I apologize for that in advance).
